Tribute to Mr Gatsby
June 6, 1996 - May 8, 2002
In Remembrance of ALL our pets who touched our lives.........and will always hold our hearts.
Touch me with your voice as a puppy young and new, And let me know my presence is what is pleasing you.
Touch me with your spirit, for God sent me here to you, To teach you of that precious bond known by the choicest few.
Touch me with your hands as I grow tall and strong, I need you as my mentor throughout my whole life long.
Touch me with your lips and brush them softly on my brow, Please kiss away the fears that I am feeling now.
Touch me with your eyes as I become full grown, To validate unspoken love that we have always known.
Touch me with your heart as our bond keeps growing stronger And words need not be used in our language any longer.
Touch me with your breath so soft and warm upon my face, As I try to bring you comfort in life's never ending race
Touch me with your love when my muzzle turns to grey I live my life to please you, each and every single day
Touch me with your scent when age has dimmed my sight, To reassure me always that you will be my light
Touch me with your face when your tears are meant for me, So I may bear your pain and let your heart be free.
Touch me with remembrance when I have traveled on, And I will hold your heart in mine forever when I'm gone.
Aristos Miniature Schnauzers was established with the acquisition of the my second miniature schnauzer, Bravo's The GREAT Gatsby, affectionately known as Duncan. Duncan was brought into our family to fill the huge void left by the loss of my very first Miniature Schnauzer, Mr Gatsby. Duncan's registered name was given to bring honor and tribute to a little gray dog named Gatsby, who became my anchor during a very bleak period in my life.
Gatsby was a gift, literally and figuratively. He came into my life when just 6 weeks old on an airplane and flew into the center of my Universe until his untimely death on May 8, 2002. Mr Gatsby was a joy. He traveled everywhere with me, slept in the same bed ( he was ALWAYS under the covers with 4 little feet sticking out), and ate the same food. We got chased by a goat in NC; we sailed; and we shared a whole lifetime in 5 short years. He loved squirrels and was a very famous squirrel-hunter . His enthusiasm about them turned everyone into squirrel-watchers --just hoping to find a squirrel to show our Mr Gatsby.Throughout his short life, he brought such genuine joy to everyone who knew him. He was like a little person. He was my best friend! I will forever miss my little boy! I have never felt such loss as when Gatsby had to leave this world. I felt in my soul that I would not be able to even begin to be whole again without my Boy but I knew that in order to begin to heal I had to have another schnauzer in my life.
I found Donna Hills and Bravo! and through her I found my heart again. It was later that I learned the very day Duncan was born was the first day that Mr Gatsby became ill --it was as if one light began to shine in Kennesaw while another's light flickered across town. That simple connection between Duncan and Mr Gatsby convinced my broken heart that Duncan, indeed, was Mr Gatsby's gift to me from the beginning - that is what makes Duncan the special boy he is. The "crossing of their lights" bound Mr Gatsby and Duncan for me -hence, his name, Bravo's The GREAT Gatsby!
Through tears and a broken heart, I picked out my new little puppy --feeling a little guilty at first --and quickly realizing that Duncan was never meant to be a replacement. We visited Duncan and his brothers and sister every weekend from the time they were 3 weeks old until I was able to take Duncan home at 12 weeks. You see, all those many weeks of visiting Duncan & waiting for the day he could come to his new home ---another little gray dog captured my heart - Duncan's sister -- the pick of the litter and the most affectionate little creature alive. She was the only one NOT for SALE. Every visit, she would run to us like we were the best people on the planet and she wiggled and wormed her way into our hearts. If you know Alexis, you know that isn't very hard for her. Donna kept affirming that the girl was NOT for SALE. She was after all the pick of the litter and Donna had big plans for her. After a full month of cajoling, begging, and looking pitiful , Donna finally relented and said okay -- I think we just beat her down! We were ecstatic! So just one month after bringing Duncan home, we went back for Alexis, our second Bravo! dog, Bravo's Steel Magnolia. I like to believe that we had the boy that Mr Gatsby chose and his sister who chose us! We also found a friendship in Donna that will span our lives.
This begins the story of Aristos founded in great heartache and rising from the ashes like a phoenix to begin anew, not losing the past but building on it, to achieve the very best - Aristos.
